Choosing The Right Accommodation Style for Your Campsite

Looking to upgrade your campsite accommodation or start your own glamping site, but not sure what to provide for your guests?

When planning your accommodation business, it’s incredibly important to think carefully about the type of lodgings you are offering to your guests. Especially as it will be one of, if not, the main attraction to your site- especially if you want to tap into that luxury glamping market! Deciding on your target audience is essential!

There are all kinds of options that cater to every type of customer, from those wanting a back-to-basics camping experience to people seeking a luxury glamping getaway. So let’s take a look at some of the most popular glamping accommodation options...

Most Popular Glamping Accommodation Styles

A row of 4 grey glamping pods with black shingle roofs. Each pod has a wooden decking with a set of 2 patio chairs and a table outside. There is a ramp leading down to a gravel parking area and a Scandinavian BBQ cabin.

Glamping Pods

Glamping pods have been around for years and have become a staple in the industry. They have a simple layout and are a great alternative for a weatherproof sleeping solution. Glamping pods are a good choice if you’re tight on space and are on the cheaper side of hardstanding glamping accommodation structures.

A downside is that the market has become very saturated with glamping pods across the UK. When holiday hunting, guests will be searching for that unique experience to share with others online, and in this digital age, online marketing is a key tool to getting your business noticed!

Shepherd Huts

There’s nothing more quaint than a shepherd hut in a field surrounded by sheep, but modern day farmers are using these traditional huts to diversify their farmland and offer them as accommodation to increase their business revenue. Glamping sites will also offer these huts for a chic twist on glamping and have them fitted with ensuite bathrooms and even small kitchens!

However, traditional shepherds' huts can be very limited in space, akin to staying in a very small caravan, so be sure to consider this when choosing buildings for your accommodation site. If you want to cater to solo travellers or couples, they can be a great choice, but groups and families would find it difficult to squeeze into a Shepherd’s Hut.

Bell Tents & Tipis

If you want your guests to have that traditional camping under canvas experience, but with extra space and structure- then bell tents or Tipis could be right for you and your glamping business. Bell tents and Tipis offer the classic camping experience, but are more weatherproof and can fit full sized furniture, to help cater to those guests who want that luxurious escape. They are also great for festivals or temporary seasonal glamping sites.

However, as with all tents, a bell tent or Tipi relies on good weather conditions and are most comfortable in the warmer months, which limits the camping & glamping season to only a few months of the year. Similarly to the popularity of pods, people might be feeling a little burnt out on bell tents and will be looking for their next unique glamping experience.

Safari Tents

Safari tents are popular due to their size and adaptable interior space. Their furnishings can be as simple as a few beds and storage or you can go all out and have a full kitchen, bedroom and bathroom!
Safari tents traditionally have wooden bases and may feature a timber frame for additional structure and security, with canvas walls and roof. They also feel very close to staying in a traditional canvas tent but with that added security of it not falling down in high winds!

Although mostly weatherproof, a safari tent would not be suitable for all year round glamping as they lack insulation. They are great when the weather is warmer and less rainy, but could quickly get uncomfortable if the weather takes a turn for the worse.

They also feature insulated floors and roofs, double glazed windows and secure locks for guests’ comfort and peace of mind. Not forgetting their unique look- Who wouldn’t want to stay in a cosy Scandinavian style log cabin in the woods?

A downside of a glamping cabin is that they are not the cheapest option on the market, due to the materials and care we take with our products, but rest assured as we have finance options available to suit your business. Additionally , for your peace of mind, all our timber buildings come with a 10 year guarantee. Our sales team will help you out with all the information you need to know to grow your ROI!

Modern Lodges

If you want to offer the ultimate in glamping accommodation that feels like a luxury hotel room in nature, a modern lodge could be the right choice for your accommodation business! These modern glamping lodges can be customised to suit your requirements, from size and room partitions to cladding and internal paint colours. These modern accommodation lodges can also be set up to include space for a bathroom, kitchenette and multiple bedrooms.

However, a modern lodge can be on the upper end of pricing, due to them generally being larger buildings and with lights, electrical outlets, full insulation and double glazed windows & doors. Modern glamping lodges can be built in a variety of sizes and with different finishes, so they can be tailored to fit in with your budget.
